Everyone wants their car to look clean, but not everybody has the time to do it. With today’s busy world, keeping your car nice and clean can seem like an uphill battle. Before you shell out your hard-earned cash and pay a detailer, check out these easy tips that will show you how to detail your car yourself while saving a bit of time and money.
Pesky Carpet Issues
From spilled drinks to nasty food crumbs, the carpet in your car is bound to get dirty. When you can, pre-treat stubborn stains using a spot remover. Then, use a scrub brush to work the stain out of the carpet, much like you’d treat the carpet in your home. You probably don’t need to use a carpet shampoo or anything too fancy, a simple carpet cleaning spray and pre-treatment should get the job done. Vacuum out any crumbs and dirt as often as possible. If you have rubber floor mats, take them out and spray them with a garden hose and let them air dry. Compacted carpet can be remedied with a good scrub brush before you vacuum. This will make the fibers look fluffier.
Cleaning the Nooks and Crannies
If you have pets or kids, you know how easily messes can be made. To remove pet hair, use a pumice stone and drag it over your carpet and upholstery. Use slow, long strokes to remove the excess hair and then discard it into the trash. Don’t forget under your seats! Move the seats as far back as you can and clean underneath them. Repeat the same step by moving the seat as far forward as you can to ensure you get the entire space underneath. This is also a good time to clean the seat’s tracks, too. Clean any gaps between your center console, the cup holders, and any seat pockets to make sure you cover everything.
Pesky Window Haze
Even if you don’t smoke, your car window can start to build up a weird chemical film that creates a white haze. To remove the haze, use a microfiber cloth and a glass cleaning solution. Don’t use a circular motion since this could make the problem worse. Instead, go vertically and then horizontally to wipe the haze clean. You may need to do this a few times before it looks clear again. Don’t forget the back window and back passenger windows, too.
